Tenant Defense Project

Organization: Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc.

Landlords of federally-subsidized properties and private properties with federally-backed mortgages are prohibited under the CARES Act from filing evictions for nonpayment until July. Atlanta Legal Aid expects improper filings to continue in the interim, as well as a large influx of eviction filings once the CARES Act restriction expires. We are seeking volunteers to provide a range of services to affected tenants, including consultations/advice, self-help answers to evictions, an/or  representation. Advice and self-help services may be provided remotely. This project is suitable for attorneys licensed to practice in Georgia.

Volunteers will receive training, materials, and support from experienced Atlanta Legal Aid attorneys.
