Unemployment Benefits Appeals

Organization: Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc.

Volunteers represent clients in unemployment benefits appeal hearings before an administrative hearing office with the Georgia Department of Labor. Hearings are conducted remotely via telephone. Non-attorneys are permitted to represent claimants in these administrative appeals, so this project is suitable for attorneys, paralegals, and law students.

Administrative hearings are conducted when the claimant is denied unemployment benefits and appeals the denial, or when the claimant is granted benefits and the employer appeals.

Volunteers will be provided with virtual training, a process guide and case law packet, and guidance from experienced Atlanta Legal Aid attorneys.
